I put thousands of hours into Tribes back in the day. So when I see people still building on games like that, I pay attention. I recently installed Tribes again and got it running—and now there are two projects I want to share.
Tribes: an old favorite getting new life
The Tribes 1.50 Modern Client at Kingdom of Kronos rebuilds the original game for modern hardware. The developers describe a 64-bit engine, updated graphics, built-in updates, and easier access to mods.
For me, the connection is personal: this is a game I spent a huge amount of time playing. Getting Tribes running again gave me a reason to revisit it. Seeing development continue gives me a reason to keep watching.
Project Reclaimer: more room for Halo 3
Project Reclaimer is an independent fan project built around Halo 3 from The Master Chief Collection. Its developers advertise expanded player counts, online split screen, dedicated servers, and more Forge tools. It uses your own Steam copy of MCC with Halo 3 installed.
This is one I’ve been following rather than testing. It’s in early development. What interests me is the ambition: taking a familiar game and opening up more ways for people to play it together.
These are the kinds of projects I want to keep an eye on. There’s still life in these games, and people are putting real work into giving players more reasons to return.
A little more room for your mouse
I use one of Razer’s big, thick desk mats, and I love it. If revisiting these shooters has you looking at your desk setup, a large mousepad is one accessory worth considering. Just measure your desk before choosing a size.
